Leaky Roof Water Damage Prevention Tips

The Steamatic team would like to offer our readers some loss prevention and roof maintenance tips to minimize their chances of encountering any problems.

  • Call in a professional pair of eyes. At least once per year, you should have a professional look at your roof for any potential problems. A roofing or gutter cleaning professional would be able to assess your level of protection from water damage. Detailed inspection reports can be requested, giving you information on the condition of your roof flashing, covering, parapets, and drainage. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, as they say!
  • Invest in roofing repairs. If you have made it through the winter without any leaks thus far, but have noticed missing shingles or loose granules, then you need to act now. If you notice any pooling water on your roof, you need to take action immediately. Now that the weather is warm and the roof conditions safer, these problems can be repaired along with any deteriorated flashing around your chimneys and vents.
  • Consider insulating problem areas. Certain parts of the roof are especially prone to freezing and accumulated snow fall. If you notice pooling water anywhere now that spring is here, these pools will indicate areas in need of insulation.

I wanted to let you know what an excellent customer service experience that I had with Ivan Cartagena and his workers. Ivan was extremely professional, communicative and helpful during the whole process (we had flooding in our basement and Steamatic was the company appointed by my insurance company to complete the necessary work). The onsite workers were polite, professional and worked very cleanly and responsibly (our home was always respected and left clean after each time they were onsite). I would not hesitate to recommend Steamatic based on the experience I had.
