How To: Have Your Marble Floors Sparkling

Many homes in today’s society have ceramic, porcelain, stone, marble or vinyl tiles installed on the floor, making cleaning the floors easier for homeowners. Over time your floors become dirty and begin to look dull and run-down.

Daily marble floor maintenance

Dirt and grit do the most damage to marble floors. Dusting and mopping your floors daily, as well as having a mat or rug at the front door of your home can minimize the damage this can cause. It is not recommended that you use a vacuum cleaner on marble floors as they can easily be scratched.

It is important to never scrape your floors or use chemical agents while cleaning. These will increase the chance of damage to your floors.

Spot cleaning your marble floors

On occasion you will find that your marble floors endure small stains but each type of stain required a specific cleaning technique. You may not have time to mop the entire floor so as an alternative you can:

Sugar based Stains.

Moisten a sponge in warm water that has a few drops of liquid dish detergent on it. Scrub the spot, then rinse it well with clean water, and dry the spot with a paper towel.

Sauces and oils.

You must attend to these stains quickly with a household sponge dipped in warm, soapy water, with a little bit of hydrogen peroxide added. First, rub the stain then flood it and immediately wipe up excess water. Repeat these steps until the stain disappears.

If you have marble tile floors there will be thin lines in between each of the tiles. Often times, you will find that grout will build up in these lines in your floors. When this begins to happen the entire floors begins to look old, dirty and unappealing.
